Colombian marks 53 points in a game of volleyball and equals world record

Colombiana marcou 53 pontos em jogo de vôlei na Coreia do Sul e igualou recorde mundial da cubana Yumilka Ruiz

Madelayne Montaño reached the world record for points in one game of volleyball. The Colombian scored 53 points in Korean league match, equaling the marks obtained by the Cuban Yumilka Ruiz and Croatian, Barbara Jelic-Ruzic.

Montaño got her job done in the match of her team KT & G Hunkuk against the GS Caltex. This is the third time this season that the Colombian breaks the barrier of 40 points in a single match - she had already scored 43 and 44 points in two games.


The first player to reach 53 points in a single match was Barbara Jelic-Ruzic with the Croatian NT in a European Championship game in 1999. In 2005, Cuban Yumilka Ruiz equaled the feat while playing for Russian team Ekaterinburg. Read the original here [in Portuguese]

Bruno, of Cimed, breaks ankle ligament in the Superleague match against Londrina

The Cimed received bad news for the upcoming games in the Superleague men's volleyball. On Wednesday, the setter Bruno underwent a MRI scan and was found a broken left ankle ligaments. With that, he will miss the team in a period still to be defined by the medical commission of the Santa Catarina Team. Read more here [in Portuguese]

Brazilian Youth/Children Male National Team: Percy Oncken calls 21 players

National Team Unit of the Brazilian Volleyball Confederation (CBV) announced on Thursday (03.03), the list of players called up by coach Percy Oncken for the Brazilian juvenile male NT. The 21 athletes listed will appear in Aryzão, the Centre for Development of Volleyball in Saquarema (RJ) on Monday (14/3).

Players will have four months of preparation until the category World Championship to be held in Argentina 19-28 August. Until then the coach Percy Oncken will define the 12 athletes who will play in the championship. Check out the list here

Champions League semifinals is set; Turkish Volleyball guaranteed in the Final.


Fenerbahçe x VakifGunes and Pesaro x Rabita Baku.

These are the two games that will decide the finalists of Champions League 2010/2011.

The Rabita Baku of Azerbaijan defeated the Muszyna of Poland by 3-0, and closed the series with two games to nill. The Pesaro of Italy eliminated Zürich Voler also in two games.

The Pesaro of the Dutch Manon Flier is the leader of the Italian championship. In Rabita Baku play Sanja Starovic and Natalya Mammadov.

 
Fenerbahçe of José Roberto Guimaraes will face the traditional derby against VakifGunes. Surprisingly, the VakifGunes won twice against Eczacibsi, leader of the Turkish Championship. In the second match, VakifGunes made 3 sets to 2 and secured a place in the semis. The Polish Glinka was the highlight of the team with 22 points.
 

The Bergamo, placed second in the Italian league, is the current European champions. In the final, the team coached by Ze Roberto, lost by 3 sets to 2. Francesca Piccinini was elected the best player of the league and Gamova, playing for Fenerbahce, was the highest scorer of the Champions League 2009/2010. 

The finals will take place between March 19 and 20 in the gym Burhan Felek of Fenerbahçe.
